Chapters 70 and 71 Summary

Brenda tells Thomas that he has to kill the pods that are opening and can kill them. Thomas goes from pod to pod to kill the animals that are inside of each. Brenda is navigating the people out of the doors in the meantime.

When Thomas reaches the fourth pod, however, the animal is coming out. He manages to kill this one but doesn't reach the final pod before the animal emerges. The last animal spits spikes from its body and slices through a group of people. Thomas yells to others that he'll distract it and the others should get the rest of the people to safety.

Teresa throws herself onto the animal. She urges Thomas to get away. When the animal starts to suck in Teresa's face to suffocate her, Thomas attacks the animal to try to save Teresa's life...
