Chapters 33 and 34 Summary

Since the town is empty and it is dark, they decide to go back to their hotel for the night before trying to get out of Denver. Jorge thinks he hears someone following them, but they don't find anyone, so they go up to their room to sleep.

They leave the hotel the next morning. They still don't see as many people as before. The ones who are out are keeping their surgical masks held onto their faces and move with a quick and frantic walk. Thomas and the others continue back to the airport, but they see movement in an empty lot they pass. It's a shirtless man digging in the mud. The man also has scratches and marks all over his body. Brenda says the man is sick and they need to keep moving.
