Chapter 4 Summary

Thomas scrubs five times to get clean. As he looks at himself in the mirror, he glimpses his tattoo, which reminds him of everything that has happened. Rat Man returns to pick up Thomas. Rat Man says that he and each of his friends had different experiences in phase three of the trial. Thomas assumes his phase three was his stay in the white room.

Rat Man escorts Thomas to an auditorium, where he finds his friends—Minho, Frypan, Newt, Aris, Sonya and Harriet. They are all safe and healthy looking, and happy. All of his friends are there except for Jorge and Brenda.

Teresa comes into the auditorium. Thomas tries to speak to her with his mind, but it doesn't work. He approaches Teresa. Teresa says she tried to talk to him every day but that she thinks they cut them...
