Chapters 11 and 12 Summary

As Beth continues to work, she catches a news story about Marlene Brandon being shot and killed during a burglary of her home. Beth calls her editor at the paper insisting that Bill killed his sister and that Marlene Brandon was the woman she interviewed last night. Beth hears the creaking coming from the attic again. She tells her editor she's going to check it out and if she doesn't come back in a few minutes to call the police. Beth goes to the attic, checks the Christmas tree box, but finds it empty under the tree. She goes back to the phone and convinces her editor to have someone cover the Marlene Brandon story and let her know what they find out. Two cops from Tampa show up at her door wanting to question her about Marlene Brandon.
