Chapters 7 and 8 Summary

As Beth in transcribing the tapes from her interview with Marlene, she hears creaking above her head. She grabs her gun and calls 9-1-1. She reports someone in her house. A cop tells Danks, which is one of the cops Nick spoke to, that the lady of the house they are patrollung just called to report an intruder.

Bill is at the gas station waiting for Jimmy. When the boy doesn't show, Bill heads toward Beth's house. On the way, he sees a cop car with its siren on heading that way. Bill assumes Beth called the cops because she caught Jimmy. He decides to head to the home so he can be there when the cops call there.

Jimmy hears the siren and someone knocking on the door. He uses the noise downstairs to cover him while he runs...
