Chapter 34 Summary

Odd asks Rodion about his bearskin hat, and he admits that in Russia he killed the bear from which the hat came. He also admits that in Russia, he was not a librarian, but a mortician. He was so good at his trade that he required no formal training and merely was allowed to perform his task.

Odd tells him where to get keys and which SUV to drive. Since he has snow driving experience, Odd asks him to lead. Rodion reminds Odd that under chaos is order looking for a way out, and tells him that if he could see the storm from another perspective, he wouldn't fear it. Odd knows that isn't true. He tells Rodion to lock his doors and not to stop no matter what he sees.
