Chapter 12 Summary

Odd and Brother Knuckles search, but find no trace of Brother Timothy. Odd retreats to the library, Elvis with him, but Brother Knuckles looks over invoices and then goes to mass. Odd is startled momentarily when Romanovich the Russian shows up in the library.

After the Russian leaves, Brother Rafael tells Odd that Brother Timothy has not been found, but the police are giving up their search. They unofficially determined that Brother Timothy is probably taking a break from the tedium of the monastery.

Chapter 12 Analysis

Odd and Brother Knuckles search for, but don't locate Brother Timothy. Neither of them really expects to; instead, Odd and Elvis spend some time in the library, where Odd literally runs into Rodion Romanovich while looking through the stacks. They have a meaningless conversation after which Odd wonders why neither of them brought up the missing Brother...
