Chapter 21 Summary

Odd asks Jacob who wants him dead. The answer: the Neverwas. Neverwas once came to him, and seeing that Jacob was full of black said, "Let him die." Odd is painfully aware that Jacob knows something that will help him figure this all out, but when Odd presses him for more information, he says he saw Them and the Neverwas, but he fears that when the darkness comes, he'll float off in the wrong direction and not be able to find the bell.

Odd tries to get more out of Jacob, but it seems as though their conversation just goes around in circles. He asks Jacob who wants him dead, and Jacob tells him that it's the Neverwas.
