Chapter 3 Summary

St. Bartholomew's has an advanced computer system that monitors everything. Fear of fire drives Odd to check all the systems; all are green and working properly. The only threat is from people. Somehow Odd has a hard time picturing the sisters or the monks involved in any such atrocity.

Odd suddenly realizes that his time for quiet contemplation is finished, and this is just God's way of starting the ball rolling again. For seven months, he has enjoyed a much needed hiatus from his real life, but now he is definitely getting the message that it's time to return to work. As he backs out of the computer program, he sees a reflection behind him. He spins the chair around to face the intruder.
