Chapter 24 Summary

Quickly Odd heads up the stairs, the noise of the bells now so angry and loud that Odd can't block it out. He gets to the top, and watches dead Brother Constantine. He is psychically sending out waves of poltergeist energy that make the bells ring angrily. Finally the noise is reduced to small harmonic tones.

Odd notices movement behind the bells. Constantine sees the black robed figure and shrinks back. The figure comes forward, there is an empty space where his face should be. He has no hands or feet and wears a necklace of three finger bones with human teeth on either side. He has a woven cord of what looks like human hair around his waist.. He drifts forward and Odd backs up.
