Chapter 31 Summary

Brother Timothy is suspended up off the floor. Six feet above him, white pegs are driven into the concrete wall, and inch wide lengths of cloth are used to suspend him to them. The scene mocks the crucifixion of Christ. Odd calls out twice, but Brother Timothy appears to be deceased. Wanting to cut him down, Odd closely examines the white bands. The material is icy cold, and Odd's fingers begin to grow numb. The pegs are like wedges driven into the concrete and look like bleached bone. A strong feeling that the Trickster is behind him makes Odd's scalp crawl. He turns to face him, but only Boo is behind him. He turns back to Brother Timothy, just as Timothy's eyes open.
