Chapter 10 Summary

The police take immediate interest in Odd as he is the only one not in a monk's robe. Brother Knuckles tells Odd that he did a bed check and found all in bed. In the morning, Brother Timothy did not show up for Lauds, and Knuckles found pillows stuffed in his bed. Brother Knuckles thinks Brother Timothy is dead, confirming Odd's fears.

Chapter 10 Analysis

Odd is quick to dress and get downstairs. He wants to know what is going on, but knows that he will only attract attention to himself by going over and asking the police who are standing to one side quietly waiting for Abbot Bernard to finish prayers. Odd tries to look casual, knowing he stands out if not for anything other than that he dresses differently.
