Chapter 7 Summary

The cry is cut off quickly, he runs in the direction of the cry. Around the corner of the library, he almost trips over a monk lying on the grass. As he leans in to listen for breath, he is clubbed from behind. Odd rolls, gets to his feet, and runs as fast as he can. He grabs a few stones to throw at the pursuer. He circles back and is surprised that the monk is gone. He searches, but finding nothing and returns to the guest house.

Odd runs toward the outcry and almost falls over a monk lying face down in the grass. Odd tries to check for vital signs, but his hands are so cold he can't be sure whether he is feeling a pulse or not. He leans in to listen for breath just as the assailant...
