Objective

Jack: Straight from the Gut by Jack Welch is Jack's own story of his rise to power at General Electric and the theories and concepts he practiced there. Some worked, some did not and Jack is willing to share both his victories and his losses with the reader. Today's lesson will introduce the book to students and will define the term autobiography.

Lesson

1) Class discussion: Develop a working definition of "autobiography." An autobiography is the story of a person's own life. Write the definition on the board and have students write it in their notebooks as well. Have students read any other autobiographies? Why would a reader want to read an autobiography? Why would a person want to author an autobiography? Does it seem that this book is an autobiography? Why or why not?
