Chapter 31 Summary

Smiley tells Jim that Control is dead and that he, Smiley, was dismissed from the Circus and that Alleline is now in charge. Smiley also tells him that the cover of members of the Czech networks were blown and they were killed and it is believed that Jim is responsible. Jim tells Smiley that Jim had first been briefed by Control at a safe house meeting. Control told him that Testify was a Czech general named Stevcek. He had requested a meeting with a member of the Circus in the forest outside of Brno. He had defense information to pass.
