Chapter 12 Summary

Smiley does not feel nostalgic when he visits Oxford; it has been too long. Smiley goes inside a building where he finds Miss Connie Sachs, who had been a researcher at the Circus. She greets him warmly. He questions Miss Sachs about some people and events, particularly Polyakov. Connie begins with a fifth-rate defector named Stanley in 1963. His interrogators were interested in a specialty camp that Stanley had attended. There were some fenced in huts at the camp that were a training facility for Karla. The information gained from Stanley was forgotten about until Major Mikhail Fedorovich Komarov was caught spying in Tokyo, who was eventually shot.
