Chapter 28 Summary

Smiley's meets Jerry Westerby and asks him about a journalist job that took Jerry from Budapest to Prague where Jerry heard a story, of which he had written to Smiley. Jerry had wanted to write a story about Jim Ellis but Toby Esterhase refused to allow him to do so. Jerry had been in Prague and a man asks Jerry if he wants to know the truth about Jim Ellis. The manwas on maneuvers in the forest near Brno when the forest was cleared. The man learns that the Russians were looking for a British spy named Hajek, who had tried to kidnap a general. The Russians had shot the British agent. The nephew had asked his superior why they had to look for the agent if the Russians had shot him.
