Chapter 15 Summary

Smiley establishes his operational headquarters at the Hotel Islay in Sussex Gardens, using the name Barraclough. Mendel tips the proprietor, Mrs. Graham, heavily to keep a log of the comings and goings of people and of incoming letters and what objects are in the room. What Mendel does not know is that Jim has his students tracing Mendel's steps. Lacon supplies Smiley with documents he wants, though Lacan does not like this breach in procedure. Mrs. Graham reports this information to Mendel. Smiley reads a document on Operation Witchcraft and wants more information. He questions Lacon, who is upset at the questioning. Lacan says a document Smiley wants is in the Minister's safe and Lacon doesn't know the combination. Smiley tells him that he wants everything that had to do with Prideaux.
