Essay Topic 1
Write an essay concerning the sections of Henderson's books entitled "The Need for Alternate Theories" and "An Alternate Viewpoint." Some questions one may want to consider include: Why do Henderson and Longshanks insist that alternate theories must be taught in schools? What are the theories the two want taught in schools? What are the implications of including all theories in school curricula? Do the authors want all theories taught in schools, or just certain ones?
Essay Topic 2
Henderson wrote The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster largely in response to the debate about the theory of Intelligent Design and its place in America's classrooms. Write an essay summarizing the discussion over Evolution, Intelligent Design, and, most recently, Flying Spaghetti Monsterism and their places in schools' curricula. Hint: A good starting place is the State of Tennessee vs. John Scopes trial, commonly referred to as the "Scopes Monkey Trial." Other topics one may want to consider include Henderson's open letter to the Kansas School Board, the circumstances surrounding that letter, Pastafarian activity in Polk County, Florida, etc.
