Essay Topics

Write an essay for ONE of the following topics:

Essay Topic 1

Write an essay explaining parody as a literary genre. Explain the genre and its characteristics, being sure to include examples of famous parodies and explaining how and why The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster qualifies as a parody. Be sure to include detains from Henderson's book and explain what they are parodying. Support any and all assertions with quotes or examples from the book.

Essay Topic 2

Write an essay concerning the sections of Henderson's books entitled "The Need for Alternate Theories" and "An Alternate Viewpoint." Some questions one may want to consider include: Why do Henderson and Longshanks insist that alternate theories must be taught in schools? What are the theories the two want taught in schools? What are the implications of including all theories in school curricula? Do the authors want all theories taught in schools, or just certain ones?

Essay Topic 3

Using the various proofs included in the "Enlightenment Institute" section of Henderson's book, choose one method employed by more than one author (mathematics, science, logic, history, etc) to try to prove the existence of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Write your own essay asserting that the Flying Spaghetti Monster does indeed exist, using phrases from your chosen proofs to support any assertions you may make.
