Lesson 1 (from Part One, Chapter One)

Objective

Part One, Chapter One:

In Part One, Chapter One, Arnold decides to become a bodybuilder, a goal not shared by his father, who encourages him to participate in competitive team sports. His father says he is away from home too many evenings, and informs Arnold he can visit the gym only three evenings a week. Arnold gets around this restriction by building his own gym at home. This lesson focuses on the conflict that occurs between Arnold and his father and the behavioral choices Arnold makes as a result.

Lesson

1) Class discussion. Arnold's father does not stop him from training; he simply limits his time at the gym. Arnold chooses to create his own gym, and continues training. Ask the class to answer the following questions:
