Chapters 19 and 20 Summary

Chapter 19. As Crepsley falls, Mika Ver Leth, one of Shan's fellow Princes, rescues Crepsley. Vampires drop out of the ceiling to attack the Vampaneze. As Harst advances on Crepsley, Crepsley cuts Harst's head off with his sword. Mika throws a sword at Steve as he tries to escape out of the tunnel. When Shan asks Vancha where the Vampires came from, Vancha says he flitted to Vampire Mountain to get them, but told them to wait to attack until they had killed the Lord of the Vampaneze.

Chapter 20. Shan admits that isn't how the story ends. Shan had been simply wishing that some of the other Vampires would come to their rescue as Crepsley was falling. Instead, Crepsley falls and is impaled on the stakes below. Shan vows to stay until the fire burns out so they can retrieve Crepsley's body...
