Chapters 17 and 18 Summary

Chapter 17. Crepsley is standing on the edge of the platform. The light is shining in his eyes as he realizes he has killed the Lord of the Vampaneze. Suddenly, Steve pushes Crepsley and he falls into the fire pit below.

Chapter 18. As Steve lets go of the chain in his hand, Crepsley grabs on to it—saving himself from completely falling into the pit. Crepsley reaches up and yanks the chain to kill Steve as well. Harst reaches out his hands to save Steve bearing the weight of both men on his arm. Crepsley says his goodbyes to Vancha and Shan. Then he lets go and falls into the pit.
