Chapter 5 Summary

Two officers have Shan in a holding cell. The officers are questioning Shan, but he is staying silent. The officers say they are taking blood samples from Crepsley and Harkut to see what they are—Vampires or something else. The police officers allow Walter Blaws to enter the cell. Mr. Blaws is the inspector of a school in which Shan had enrolled as Darren Horston. Blaws identifies Shan as Horton and asks Shan how he could have killed all those people.

Chapter 5 Analysis

Ironically, the police and Shan's group are on the same side, but the police arrest Shan and the two others anyway. Apparently, a huge amount of humans have been murdered. The police believe Shan and his group are the killers from an anonymous tip called in by Leonard or one of his group.
