Chapter 42 Summary

Senator's homecoming is quite a shock for his mother and father, as he has a terrible taste in his mouth for the war and his mechanical leg that he now has to live with. They invite friends and family to welcome him home, and within five minutes they all depart due to his nasty speech that he delivers, telling them he should have brought a vial of morphine so they could watch him shoot up.

He apologizes to his parents for running everyone off and tells them he's all messed up and needs a few days to rest. They try to understand. Over the next week, Senator stays alone in his bedroom in the dark. His father brings a television into his room so he can watch it instead of doing nothing.

A few days later his friend Mark knocks on his bedroom...
