Chapter 24 Summary

Cat Man (Tacio) came from Mexico with his family. They lived with his uncle and his large family. Cat Man worked the fields for twelve hours to make ten dollars. His uncle and the rest of the family were proud of them. After a short while, his family made him leave the fields and go to school to learn English. He attends a special education class and does as he is told.

He experiences sex for the first time in a shed outside of the school when he's thirteen years old. The girl is fifteen. He quits school when he's sixteen and goes back to work in the fields. He's meant for the Marines. As soon as he enlists he knows this is what he's meant to do.
