Chapter 40 Summary

It's two years later and Snake's mother misses him dearly. She reads the letters he sent her while in the bush over and over again. She also reads the letter written by his commanding officer, stating that he would be recommended for a medal of honor. She wonders when the medal will come. She imagines the suit she will wear and what she will say when the President hands it to her. She is so proud of him.

There was investigation that she was aware of, though. In addition, the medal will never come. According to the reports on the investigation, they had read a letter the Senator had written regarding the deaths of Ogre and Baby Cakes.
