Chapter 29 Summary

Hodges waits patiently at the troop tent until he sees Snake and the other men slowly making their way toward him. He yells toward them and they all smile and walk faster toward him. They greet each other like brothers. Hodges takes his shirt off, showing his scars to the men. He tells them that he turned down the job in Okinawa to be back with them and Snake looks at him in shock.

Hodges tells them that the hot water has been turned on, so they should take advantage of the showers. They haven't showered in months, so they are happy about the hot water. They have to head back to the Arizona, so they enjoy their time at the troop tent, eating freeze dried burgers and hot dogs and drinking lots of beer.

A few black Marines gather around a radio...
