Summary

Part Three is titled A New Peril. In Chapter 12, Peril is giddy with the idea that she can touch others, and she bumps into Chameleon several times. Peril says she is going to “HUG EVERYONE” but Scarlet puts an end to that line of thinking. She says Peril has to pretend she is still dangerous in order for Scarlet to threaten everyone into compliance. She says after she kills Ruby, Peril can be “as dippy and cuddly and stupid as you want” (136). Peril assures herself that her purpose is to do whatever Scarlet commands. Peril calls Chameleon “Dad” and Scarlet calls Peril “darling,” which makes Peril certain that Scarlet loves her. Guards confront them but run at the sight of Peril.
