Summary

The novel opens with a map of Pyrrhia, the continent where this novel is set, followed by a formal welcome letter to the Jade Mountain Academy and a list of the dragonets attending the school. There are seven dragon tribes in this land: SandWings, SkyWings, MudWings, NightWings, IceWings, SeaWings, and RainWings. This opening includes a brief description and the attributes of each. The final page before the prologue is the Jade Mountain Prophecy, which was issued by the NightWing dragonet named Moon. The prophecy says to “Beware” of several things and warns that “Something is coming” that will cause Jade Mountain to fall “Unless the lost city of night can be found” (18).
