Chapter 1 Summary

Eva Tramell and her best friend, Cary Taylor, are settling into their new Manhattan apartment. Cary is a model and Eva is starting a new job as an assistant to a junior account manager, Mark Garrity. Cary is trying to get Eva to go out for drinks, but Eva wants to time her walk to walk and then go to the gym.

After the less than thirty minute walk to The Crossfire building, Eva ends up falling on her butt when she tries to help a woman pick up the contents of her dropped her purse. Eva looks up to see a very attractive man standing before her. He helps her up and Eva asks for I.D. badge. Eva leaves The Crossfire and takes a kickboxing class at the gym.
