"Mona Lisas and Madhatters"
This song represents two truths about the lives of Saint and Patch. The first is that their friendship is a gift they share throughout their life. When Saint sings this song to Patch, their friendship is still in its infancy, but these two lonely kids have found each other, and Saint goes to great lengths to protect their friendship. The song also symbolizes the different perspectives of those who have much, like the Meyer family, and of those who have little, like Patch and Ivy. This song is used because it shares these similar themes with the novel. The fact that Saint sings it to Patch shows how much their own lives are caught up in these themes.

The eye patch that Patch wears symbolizes his desire to be a pirate which in turn symbolizes his desire to have more power...
