We Begin at the End Overview

We Begin at the End, a novel by Chris Whitaker, tells a story of crime, redemption, and the length to which a person will go to protect a loved one. Cape Haven police chief Walker, aka “Walk,” had never dealt with much serious crime in his small hometown until Star Radley, Walk’s childhood friend, was murdered. Vincent King, Star’s first love who had just been released from jail for accidentally hitting and killing Star’s younger sister with a car, claimed he was responsible for the murder. However, Walk did not believe him. Walk's rogue investigation into Star’s death uncovered a multitude of secrets. Themes in the novel include the danger of judging by appearances, selfless choices, and how one mistake can change the trajectory of a person’s life.
