Summary

Misty waits for 16-year-old Patch to get off the bus each day. He works in the mines and has dropped out of school. Misty makes his friends at the mine cupcakes to help him make friends. In Chapter 87, Patch continues to search the news and paint missing girls, and he speaks with another mother. Misty talks about prom but does not ask Patch to go. When Richie refuses Patch’s’s painting of Callie, Sammy agrees to keep it in the window until Callie is found.

Patch continues to see Misty in Chapter 88, and Norma has to quit her job. Misty gets mad when Patch goes to see about another girl instead of going to the movies. Sammy and Patch talk about how Misty will eventually go away to college and leave Patch. Sammy plans to show Patch’s paintings.
