Summary

In Chapter 5, Sundew says she took some of Blue's flamesilk as soon as he emerged from his cocoon, and that she handed it over to her parents outside the Glitterbazaar (this took place in the previous installment of this series). Cricket makes it clear she feels betrayed. Blue is horrified, especially considering he produced such a small amount. Belladonna says he is going to be “useful” but he says he will not. Sundew says Belladonna will have to take care of Blue's friends if she wants his cooperation.

Belladonna applauds the fact that Sundew has “hostages,” though that is not what she intended. Sundew feels the village is safe because of her work, but it feels like a prison to me sometimes” (58). She feels so unsettled now that she wants to run “to her dragon” (59).
