Summary

In Chapter 2, Sundew finishes her sentence with the words “– touch the Venus dragon-trap” (30). Blue is immediately frantic. Sundew takes time to warn Bumblebee to never touch that flower. Blue reaches out to touch the flower that ate Swordtail but Sundew slaps his hand, repeating he should not touch it. Swordtail is thrashing around and Sundew says it will take hours to kill him. She says they cannot cut into the plant either. As Sundew considers what to do next, Blue throws out flamesilk. The fire spreads quickly. Sundew calls on a chokeberry tree, “sending her power down through the wood, through the roots, through the mycelium threads under the soil” (32) so the tree bursts upward, “growing at the speed of an erupting volcano. She uses the juice from the berries to make a firebreak and Cricket helps put out the fire. Sundew yells...
