Summary

In Chapter 23, Snowfall wakes understanding more about Jerboa and why she “broke animus magic” (221). Snowfall knows she would have been angry a few days earlier. She does not blame Jerboa for not telling the truth about it. She wonders if Jerboa's answer was the proper one. She thinks, “Maybe it's not so terrible if we have to figure out how to save the world without magic” (222). She also pledges to visit Jerboa, realizing Jerboa needs a friend. As they travel to the palace, Snowfall feels she needs to keep dragons like Lynx close, for friendship and advice.

Dragons seem suspicious when she arrives, and she finds Ivory (the dragon she sent back to be in charge while she was away) flanked by soldiers. Tundra is there, and Mink is on the throne. Mink is wearing the crown. Tundra says they thought Snowfall was...
