Summary

In Chapter 4, Gwen is getting water from the well. Grue beat her for involving Ethan in the death of Avon. She looks at one of the buildings across the street from the tavern. Avon told her that it was once an inn. Only rats stay there now. Gwen remembers how her mother had spoken of Medford and how they would make it their home. Gwen imagined it to be a beautiful place and that she and her mother would live in a beautiful house with a fountain outside. As she sits by the well, she contemplates the very different reality.
