Summary

In Chapter 2, Gwen hears screaming coming from the second floor. A man is hammering a girl’s head against the floor. Gwen yells the name Avon and runs up the stairs. Gwen claws at the latch on the door, but the inside bolt is locked. She throws herself against it without any results. The screams have faded to whispered moans. Gwen goes to the room across the hall where Mae is entertaining a man and Mae screams in fear. Avon’s screams have interrupted everyone’s evening. Gwen kicks the loose post of the bed’s foot board and drives the post into Avon’s door.
