Chapter 5 Summary

The Dowager Duchess of Hawthorne was Jordan's grandmother. She was very calm as Jordan told her that he was attacked and almost killed the night before. The duchess tells Jordan that she is surprised that Alexandra didn't try to weasel money out of him. He tells her that she is a kind girl, that wouldn't be brave enough to ask for money. However, he intends to repay her with enough money to last her for the rest of her life in Morsham. Just as he says that, the butler interrupts telling them that Alexandra, her mother and uncle have arrived at the house. Jordan tells them that he is an honorable man, and that they didn't need to go to his house to beg for money, that he was already making preparations to send it to them.
