Summary

In Chapter 22, Winter is summoned to participate in the Diamond Trial. He wonders what would happen if he did something terrible that causes him to drop in the rankings. Winter decides he has to “Fight for his new position at the top of the rankings” anf “for his family's melting honor” (210). He knows his family expects him to fight, though they also expect him to lose. The Diamond Trial is to take place in the Diamond Cave. He trains the following day and Queen Glacier returns with Icicle. Glacier accompanies Winter to the caves. She says Queen Glory has not demanded that Icicle be executed, as most queens would have done. Instead, Glory asks for “a cutting from our moon globe tree” (212). Glory believes it will grow in the Rainforest, just as it grows in the Ice Kingdom, and will “bring the gift...
