Summary

In Chapter 13, Winter is exhausted by the time they reach the correct place. Moon and Kinkajou get caught up in a race as they near. Qibli makes a comment about the “higgledy-piggledy shenanigans” (137), clearly mocking Winter. He counters, saying he has never used the words “higgledy-piggledy” and then making fun of Qibli's “linguistic imprecision.” Winter discovers he is beginning to depend on the others for specific tasks, and knows Qibli is most likely to figure out what is really going on with Pyrite. He thinks about the bond MudWings share, which Winter's parents had said would make them weaker. It had actually made them stronger. As Winter thinks about the strengths of being part of a group, he wonders if it makes him “less of an IceWing” (138).
