Summary

Chapter 20 begins Part 3, Beneath the Ice. Winter and Hailstorm reach the boundary of the Ice Kingdom. Hailstorm is frantic when he learns the wall is enchanted to kill any dragon other than IceWings. Winter reminds Hailstorm that he is an IceWing. Winter notes that Hailstorm is beginning to recover his “bravado.” Winter thinks about how his tribe might have been different if they still had animus dragons. Hailstorm is struck by the beauty when they near the palace. The first guard they encounter says Queen Glacier is away and that Narwhal (Winter's father) is in charge in her absence. Winter is not certain he is acting correctly because he is not certain of his current ranking. Winter continues to notice the various animus gifts in the kingdom.
