Chapter 8 Summary

John pulls up to McDonald's at 11:30 pm to allegedly bust loiterers. Instead, they run into his old friends from the track team, Will Billingsley, Rashad Lowry and Skip Clark. The guys joke around with John. Meg now sees John for the 19-year-old he truly is. The guys try to get John to go with them on spring break to the Florida Panhandle. John says he can't because he has to work. Plus, if Eric is going, he can't go anyway. The guys tell him Eric isn't going because he's grounded because of the bridge incident. One of them starts imitating someone smoking a roach and saying he's better than them because he's a high school graduate.
