Chapter 1 Summary

The novel begins with Meg, her boyfriend Eric, and her two friends, Tiffany and Brian are drinking beer and walking toward the railroad bridge. They are seniors in high school and Eric and Meg are about to have sex on the bridge. Tiffany and Brian are making out nearby. They are talking about a story that Eric says is false about a girl and her boyfriend being run over by a train on the bridge. Meg thinks she hears something, but Eric says she is just paranoid from the pot they smoked before they got drunk. Then the police lights light up at the end of the bridge.
