Chapters 41-43 Summary

Reacher watches Mac being taken prisoner, though he does not know for sure which of the FBI agents he is. Garber watches as well from his position behind Mac. Garber followed Mac in the hopes of protecting Reacher should Mac come across him while still believing him to be the enemy. Borken contacts Webster and tells him to go back to his command post and watch Mac die in punishment for lying to him. At the same time, Reacher is trying to find a way to save Holly without risking firing his weapon into the walls around her room where he believes there is dynamite waiting to explode.

Three guards then take Mac out into the middle of the lawn outside the old city hall building and tie him to the ground. Just as the guards are about to kill Mac...
