Lesson 1 (from Part I (Pages 1 - 55))

Objective

The objective of this lesson is for students to analyze Wiener's first experience in the tech industry via her job at the e-book startup in New York City. After realizing her time as an assistant at a literary agency was playing itself out and there was little room for growth or career advancement there, Wiener made the jump into working for an e-book startup. Wiener felt excited to be part of a company that was in its nascent stages, but she struggled to find her footing and was ultimately embarrassed when one of her supervisors accidentally wrote in a chat room that she was too interested in learning and not interested enough in doing. Although the supervisor apologized profusely, it was not long after the incident that Wiener was fired.
