Summary

Chapter 26

Todd’s thoughts are a jumble. He eventually manages to bring things into focus and realizes that he has been stabbed in the back. Manchee is trying to get him to wake up. The knife had been partially stopped by the journal in his pack, keeping the blade from going all the way in and landing a killing blow. Viola and Aaron are gone. Todd wonders how Aaron was even able to get to them if he wasn’t on horseback, or what he was doing so far away from the army in the first place. Todd uses Viola’s supplies to treat his injuries. He’s still upset about what he did to the Spackle and doesn’t have any idea what to do. He’s determined to get Viola back. Manchee says he can pick up her scent, leading Todd...
