Viola Eades and Todd Hewitt must fight for the truth when a pair of tyrants face off against each other in the novel The Ask and the Answer by Patrick Ness. Mayor Prentiss has been allowed to take over Haven without a fight from the people. Instead of the peace he promised, Prentiss has begun imprisoning women, rationing food, and enforcing unfair rules. In response to his actions, the Answer begins bombing crucial facilities in the town, which Prentiss has renamed New Prentisstown. Together, Viola and Todd realize that neither leader is good for the people. They make a pact to take both out of power. Just when it looks like Viola and Todd are making progress, they are surprised by an enemy they never believed would attack.
