Summary

Chapter 12

Todd runs back to the girl and communicates with his Noise about the oncoming men. When he takes a closer look through the binoculars he sees that Aaron is with them. Todd is angry with himself, thinking he was too weak and it’s his fault that Aaron is still alive. Todd gets the girl to run and they manage to find a well-built bridge. Todd tries to cut the bridge with his knife to destroy it after they pass. The ropes on the bridge are coated with some kind of resin he can’t cut through. Todd becomes overwhelmed with anger and starts to hit himself. The girl is scared, but she manages to get by her fear and uses her campfire box to blow up the bridge, stopping Mayor Prentiss and his men from crossing. The Mayor threatens them, but...
