Summary

Part Two is titled A Trail of Silk. In Chapter 10, Cricket spends the day trying to figure out the meaning of the message they found at the Salvation Statue. She knows they should be at the library at midnight, but she cannot imagine the meaning of the number “5” in that message. She ponders Katydid's declaration, that Cadelle is not her mother, and tries to imagine who he parents are. She is also upset that Katydid “acted like the truth (about Queen Wasp) was just another story” (100). She wonders if she can reach Katydid if she tries again. Blue holds her talon. When he realizes she is cold, he produces a tread of a different kind of flamesilk and winds it around her arm, warming her instantly. He admits he is beginning to like being a flamesilk. They wonder if Cricket's true parents might...
